Lutein

 

 

Lutein is a natural antioxidant which can be found in a wide range of fruits and vegetables, especially in dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and collards. Classified as carotenoid, it performs well in helping eyes to function properly both in terms of general health and their ability to process blue light. 
With its function in medical treatment, lutein can also be used to reduce the chance of developing macular degeneration. As many luteins are stored in the eyes, it is thought to have a direct impact on the condition of the macula. 
Its content in the retinadetermines the quality of central vision. There is evidence that lutein can help protect the eyes from free radicals, thus minimizing damage caused by the rays of the sun.
